There are four different adaptations of the K-Lite Codec Pack. From a very small package, which consists of only the most central decoders, to a larger and more extensive package. How do I download codecs for VLC?
Go to “Start” and also click “All Programs”. Click on “VideoLAN” then “VLC Media Player”.Click Help, then click Check for Updates.Click Yes to get the latest VLC player, but with codec updates.
This option is recommended for the general user. Use it when you don’t know what you need. It already has everything you need to start playing. The additional components included in the larger versions are useless for most users.

Do I need K-Lite Codec Pack if I have VLC?
The codec features are used to allow your fan like VLC media player to use video files in different file formats with different codecs. We would like to recommend the K-Lite codec pack that should be safely downloaded and installed for VLC Media Player and other ad players for video playback.
Like plus:
GraphStudioNext Complete, a tool for creating and testing Graphs DirectShow.
Some ACM / VFW codecs, many like x264VFW and Lagarith. This version of the codec is used by many video editing / encoding applications to work with AVI files. For example VirtualDub. These codecs are not used or required for video playback. Important Note: The K-Lite Codec Pack does not extend the import capabilities of professional image editing software such as Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere. These applications still only support imports from a small range of file formats and support fewer than usUsing the type using the codecs included in each codec pack (DirectShow / VFW). Modern publishers often only use their own internal codecs, or only support external codecs of any type of Media Foundation.
And a few other optional DirectShow filters:

Important note: many of the other filters mentioned above are not installed by default. We also advise against using outdated filters. They are only available to a small group of people who have a good reason to use them. We highly recommend using the included free decoders. It’s generally better.
